Dr. Louise Vitiello is the Senior Vice President of Development for CSMI. Dr. Vitiello has designed, written proposals for, and directed grant-funded programs for 35 years. Dr. Vitiello seeks funding for CSMI schools to support innovative academic programs as well as for student support services.
Dr. Vitiello has been successful in writing for federal, state, and foundation funding for educational programs relating to academic and student support services, technology across the curriculum, and parent education. From 1990 to 1999, she helped design and develop funding for the PACT Program (Parents and Children Together in Learning), a service-learning program for low-income adults enrolled in college courses in the teaching of reading. Students received free college credits in exchange for 100 hours of volunteer tutoring in their children’s Title I elementary schools. The program received an Exemplary College/School Partnership Award from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in 1993 and a Points of Light Foundation President’s Service Award at the Presidents’ Summit for America’s Future in 1997.
Prior to coming to CSMI, Dr. Vitiello served in a number of fund-raising capacities; director of development at a community development corporation in Philadelphia; and, in various administrative capacities at institutions of higher education including Harcum College, Lincoln University, the University of Massachusetts, and Springfield Technical Community College.
Dr. Vitiello was responsible for the following grant awards to colleges and schools: 21st Century Community Learning Center, Carol M. White Physical Education Program, Charter School Dissemination, Charter School Planning, Community Technology Center, Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration, Consolidated Federal Programs (Title I, Title II, Title VI, CSRI), Educate America Act, Elementary School Counseling Program, Enhancing Education Through Technology, Even Start, Federal Literacy, Foundations (Annenberg, Fourjay, Hamilton, Philadelphia), Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) Community Service Project, Link-to-Learn, National Commission for Community Service, New Choices Program, Pennsylvania Academic Standards Implementation Project, Pennsylvania Higher Education Equal Opportunity Program (Act 101), Reading First, Read to Succeed, Safe Schools Initiatives, School and IDEA Renovation, Strengthening Institutions Program, Students Achieving Standards, Technology Literacy Challenge Fund, TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO Educational Talent Search, TRIO Upward Bound, and Women's Educational Equity Act Program.
Dr. Vitiello has an Ed. D. in Counseling in Higher Education from the University of Massachusetts, an M. Ed. in Urban Education from Springfield College, and a B.A. in English literature from Brown University.
